December is the time for my favorite flavor, mint. I love mint chocolate, mint gum, mint lemonade… So the other day I went grocery shopping and found Mint Chocolate milk and Peppermint-Mocha coffee creamer. Well, the milk is long gone and I successfully disciplined myself not to buy another one but still have mint coffee creamer which I love. But after reading the labels on the creamer and realizing that there is almost whole periodic system in it I decided to try to make my own Peppermint Mocha Coffee. And let me tell you. It’s the easiest thing to do.
Because I don’t own an espresso machine I tried all kinds of things to foam the milk and somehow I don’t remember when by accident I found out that one thing works for sure and it’s easy, cheap and handy.
So let me explain how you can make your own homemade Peppermint-mocha latte.
What you’ll need is coffee, milk, crushed peppermint candies(I throw them in the blender and crumb them), peppermint candy cane, chocolate powder for topping and sugar if you like your coffee sweet and empty plastic bottle. Yes that’s right, plastic bottle.
When you have all of this set, put the tiny crumbs of mint candy on a plate as shown on the picture and glaze the top of a mug with milk. Then dip it in crumbs, you know, like you would be making martini ;). Now put some candy crumbs in the mug, add sugar if you want and pour coffee in it. Stir until sugar and candy crumbs melt.
Let’s make the foam now.
Heat the milk, but don’t boil it and pour it into a plastic bottle. Close tight and shake bottle like you’re going crazy. Foam will start to form on top. Gently tap bottle on the counter so the foam sits down nicely and carefully open the bottle, you will hear air coming out like if you would open soda bottle. Now pour milk in the coffee and at last the foam will get out right on top of your coffee. If you don’t have enough foam repeat this a few times until you’re satisfied.
On top of the foam you can sprinkle some chocolate powder for some choco flavor and hang the candy cane on the mug.
